Boris Johnson has just been elected as leader of the Conservatives and is set to enter downing street on Wednesday.
Beating his rival Jeremy Hunt by a substantial margin and winning 66% of votes , Johnson is expected to force through a no-deal Brexit which has previously been blocked in a vote by MPs.
Many members of the Conservative party have since threatened their resignation, with Education Minister Anne Milton tweeting her resignation just half an hour before the results were set to be revealed.
The Queen Elizabeth II Centre was packed with supporters, with rapturous applause breaking out as the announcement was made.
During his acceptance speech, Johnson praised former Prime Minister Theresa May for her service and stated that members of the Conservative party know how to manage ‘the jostling instincts of the human heart’.
He also reminded the audience of his mantra:’Deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn.’
